A favorite Aunt of mine and I have lots of memories growing up. She had spunk! Selma sent birthday cards for years and on occasion I would write her a note about what's new in my life and mail her back. She will be missed.

Heather, Haley and family: My sincere condolences to your whole family on your great loss. Your Mom's passing has saddened the hearts of many--especially ones from the Iron River community where she taught me and many others for most of her teaching career. She always had a genuine interest in her former students and their families. I enjoyed chatting with her every time we met up (usually in the grocery store). She will be missed. Eternal memories!

Heather & Haley;
I remember swimming lessons way back in the day...where does time go?
May fond memories carry you through. Since Mom & Dad's passings, I find feathers, money and have flashbacks of forgotten funny stories that come to mind when I need a laugh!
Condolences to you and your families...XOXO

Such a terrible loss, what an incredible lady.
I remember being terrified to leave Grade 2 because of all the stories of how strict Mrs. Struss was. When I got to Grade 3/4, it was quickly obvious the rumors were true, but I had nothing to be scared of. Yes, she was strict! But she was also caring, adventurous, musical and fair. At a time when I got teased on the daily, she tolerated none of it. She taught me pretty much all the French I still know today. She taught us to sing Simon and Garfunkel in Music Class in 1982 when the only song we knew was by Kenny Rogers. She let us play whatever song we wanted when it was our turn, even if it was Born to be Alive!
She was a mentor and a friend all the way through Junior High and High School, an amazing friend to my Mom, and someone I was always thrilled to run into. She was a touchstone of stubborn refusal to let anything bring her down, and one of the strongest women I have ever known. Oh, and that sarcastic sense of humor!
I am heartbroken to hear such an important person to my childhood and to our community has left us. She will be remembered fondly for so many reasons. So many condolences to her family and friends.

Mrs. Strus was my grade 5 teacher at HEB school. She always pushed me to be my best and encouraged me to help others. She was caring and took an interest in my life after moving on from her class. She helped inspire me to become a teacher. My condolences go out to Heather, Cody, and family. She will be deeply missed and always in our thoughts.
