Some of my favorite memories of Eugene are the way he would lighten the mood and tell a joke in our meetings at Blue Quills. I will miss him very much, so glad I met him. Your family is in my thought and prayers.

Eugene was the presiding Elder for two events related to learning more about Indigenous culture in the Indigenous Neighbours program of Mennonite Central Committee that I am associated with. One was the Peace Pipe naming ceremony for the plaque in front of Tribal Chiefs Ventures in St.Paul and the other as as cultural teacher at UnBQ for a group of international young adults learning about environmental and human rights issues here in Alberta.
I would like it to be known how much people like Eugene play an important role in educating the general population about the realities of colonialism in Canada and its continuing effects on the Indigenous Peoples in Canada.
I am so sorry to hear of his too soon passing from this life and wish the comfort of our Creator to be with his family and friends at this time.
Jim Shantz for all at MCC who rubbed shoulders with Eugene
