Obituary of Adelard Ovide Jacko

On Saturday, October 23, 2010 Adelard Ovide Jacko of Cold Lake First Nations passed away at the age of 48 years. He is survived by his sons; Jordan and Nigel Robinson, mother of the boys Lise Robinson, siblings Casey, Miranda, Sherwin Jacko and Ramona Piche, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Adelard was predeceased by his parents Ovide and Genevieve Jacko, siblings; Floyd, Evelyn, Burton, Vincent and Randy. Adelard went to Blue Quills College where he achieved his Correctional Officer Certificate and Child and Youth Care courses. He loved youth and family counselling and really enjoyed working at Poundmaker’s Adolescent Treatment Centre. Adelard was very skilled at arts and crafts and was recently recognized for his contributions along with his brother Sherwin for refurbishing and resurrecting the TOTEM POLES in Cold Lake which was a skill that Adelard’s father Ovide was remember for. It gave the community a lot of pride for the stories of the poles are entrenched in the legacy of the Jacko family. Adelard was very excited about becoming a parent and wanted to make sure his sons knew how much he loved them by making cradle boards by spending hours upon weeks in making this precious gift still cherished today. Adelard was very proud of being Aboriginal and his art work really spoke volumes of his passion as it was expressed through the beauty of the creations that he made. Adelard will be sadly missed by his family and friends. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 29, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Cold Lake First Nations. A celebration of Adelard's life (Traditional Native Funeral) will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Cold Lake First Nations with Pipe Ceremony Dean Brown. Interment will follow at the Cold Lake First Nations Community Cemetery.
