Nine years of memories....where does one begin? Is there one single one that stands out? No...there were so many. So many good memories. In times like these, people forget the not-so-good ones and cling to the good and great ones. This time is no different for me. All I am left with are great memories. The way you loved the grandkids and did things with them. Your amazing hunting and fishing (baiting my hook and taking my fish off the line). When you would enjoy my cooking...and even when you didn't, you didn't complain (thank you for that). Better yet, when you would cook the Walleye we had caught and invite everyone over. The memories of us sitting on the sofa watching the Oilers, you rubbing my feet while I scratched your back as I screamed at my team and you would just laugh. The way you treated my mom. That's a huge one. I remember once she told me you were like her own son...she was teary when she said it. That made me proud. The way you would talk to my dad, even though he would repeat questions because of his dementia. By the way, he asked about you recently. The way you were the best stepdad you could be, to the girls. They needed that. The road trips. Short or long. Oh I miss our road trips. I loved our journeys together. I hope you know, just how loved you were. Just because we couldn't make things work, does not mean, there was no love there. My heart hurts for all the what-ifs and should haves and could haves, but I know you are in a better place. I am so sorry I won't be there to see you off on your final journey. Just know, I will be there in spirit.
