Obituary of George Arychuk
On March 3rd, 2023, Mr. George Arychuk of Glendon, Alberta passed away at the age of 92 years.
George was born on June 17th, 1930 at home on the Beacon farm located 5 miles south of Glendon. In 1954 George met a cute little redhead from Goodridge and started to court her in earnest. He married the love of his life, Dianna Navrot on December 14, 1957. They made their home in Glendon.
George loved Glendon. In 1954 he started a Cockshutt Plow Dealership. He sold machinery and gasoline. Then in 1963, George bought Mac McNeil’s Hardware building on main street Glendon. He remodeled it and opened George’s Tire Shop. He was in business in Glendon for a total of 48 years before he retired at the age of 69.
From 1962 to 1963 George was Deputy-Mayor of Glendon, and in 1964 he assumed the position of Mayor for the Village of Glendon for the balance of his term. During that time water and sewer was installed in the village. He also owned and operated a school bus for Glendon School for 21 years. He had the Rife run. He was a fireman for the Village of Glendon for 15 years, on the executive for the curling club for 10 years, and coached Minor Hockey for 5 years. George loved taking his family on vacation to BC in the summer to visit his brothers and sister.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Dianna, 1 daughter and 2 sons: Cathleen Amon (Mike), Tim Arychuk (Val), Michael Arychuk (Brenda), 4 grandchildren: Craig Arychuk (Turi), Alyssa Arychuk, Stephen Arychuk (Alesha), Chelsea Levesque (Cory): sister Florence Luciak (George), numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Daniel and Ruth Arychuk, sister Annie, and 4 brothers: Metro, Alex, Steve and Eddie.
In his retirement years George enjoyed travelling, spending time with family and friends, and cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren.
George’s family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Points West Living in Cold Lake and the staff at the Cold Lake Hospital who treated Dad with the utmost kindness, care and respect.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
