Obituary of Roland John Ulanicki

On Saturday Novembert 1, 2014, Roland Ulanicki peacefully finished his battle with cancer. He leaves to mourn his wife of 48 years Jean of Bonnyville, his daughters: Cindy (Robert) Quintero of Hinton, Brenda (Micheal) Clark of St. Albert, Diane(Elise)Ulanicki of Thorsby and exchange student he considered one of his own, Maria (Pedro)Calderon and family of Tapachula Mexico, his grandchildren Melyssa Clark, Austin Clark and Rolando Quintero, his sister: Diane Charawich and family of Iron River and his brother: Edward(Paulette) and family of Edmonton. Roland was predeceased by his father: John Ulanicki in 1989, mother: Jean (Galick)Ulanicki in 2009, grandson: Jose Roberto Quintero II in 2004, brother in law: Peter Charawich in 2009. When Roland was diagnosed with esophageal cancer he was told with the type of cancer he had,he would live 6 months to 2 years. At the time of his diagnosis his youngest grandchild was 3 months old. Roland made a wish that he could live long enough for his youngest grandchild to remember him. That wish was fulfilled with many memories of fishing, travelling and adventures as his youngest grandchild is now 8. Roland had a very positive attitude while fighting his battle of cancer despite the “new” locations throughout his body. Roland said there was no reason to worry about the things he could not change or control, so he made a bucket list of all the things he wanted to do which included buying a pontoon boat and fishing with many family and friends. If there is anything we can learn from Roland, he lead by example, living his life to the fullest and enjoying every moment he had. Prayer Service will be held on Friday, November 7, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. at Northern Lights Funeral Chapel 4304 50 Ave. Bonnyville, Alberta. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Elias Ukrainian Orthodox Church 4801 46 St. Bonnyville, with Reverend Father Peter Haugen officiating. Interment will be followed at St.Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, Beaver River Hill, In lieu of floral tributes, donations may be made to Alberta Cross Cancer 11560 University Ave, NW,Edmonton, Alberta T6G 1Z2.
