Obituary of Elizabeth Mae McAllister
McALLISTER, Elizabeth Mae
Born in Ottawa, she was the oldest of three. She assisted her parents in running the Alexander’s Dairy in Hawthorn. Betty attended Lisgar Collegiate in Ottawa some 8 km’s away; she rode her bike there every day.
Although Russell also attended Lisgar, they were not introduced until a dance held some 30 miles from Ottawa. When they met again Russell was going to his bank and there she was doing a transfer from the bank she worked at to his. He asked her out and they never looked back.
Mom and Dad had seven children whom she rode herd over. Spending her days doing what every mother does.
She loved painting and showered her artistic talents in her baking and sewing and everything she did.
Mom had a generous, non-judgmental, warm spirit that made every person in the neighborhood feel comfortable dropping in and staying for meals and love. Mom found a silver lining in everything and everyone.
She worked as a library technician and was able to share her love of books to children in story time.
She and dad spent retirement criss crossing Canada, spending summers with their families in Ontario and their children wherever they were.
Predeceased by-the love of her life, Russell, her son Alec, her brothers Neil and Morley and her sister-in-law Barbara.
Survived by her children: Glenn (Analee), Judy (Patrick), Lynn (Derrick), Ian (Colleen), Cynthia, Fiona (Brad), daughter-in-law Nancy, 13 grandchildren Chandra (Anthony), Pierce (Wendy), Stuart, Thiea (Geoffrey), Ehrn (Tyler), Amber-Sky (Derek), Morgan, Devon, Wesley (Candace), Michelle (Andrew), Joshua, Eva amd Mark, 12 (+2 pending) great grandchildren Jayda, Emilia, Peron, Brynlee, Daxyn, Kendra, River, Reid, Ellie Rae, Jacob, Magnus and Rowan.
Respectfully, The McAllister Family
